Our gas springs are not only robust and powerful, but can also be adapted to special requirements with a variety of extra features. These additional features ensure a longer service life, improved functionality, and maximum protection – even under extreme conditions.

Here you can find an overview of the most important extras:

Wiper ring

Is installed inside the rod guide and prevents foreign substances from entering the gas spring when the piston rod is retracted. Thus, it protects rod guides, seals, and other elements. Available in FKM (sealing material with high thermal and chemical resistance) for high temperatures and NBR (most commonly used material due to its good mechanical properties and resistance to mineral oil-based lubricating oils and greases).

Piston rod seal

This seal is mounted on the threaded side of the piston rod and protects the interior of the lockable gas springs from moisture and contamination. The piston rod seal is often used in medical applications, such as hospital beds.

Grease chamber

Ensures permanent lubrication of the piston rod in any installation position and prevents the seal from drying out. This is particularly advantageous for longer strokes.

Valve for force adjustment

Like the side valve, it enables exact force adjustment of the gas pressure spring on site to the desired conditions and, unlike the side valve, is located in the threaded pin of the base piece. In a tension gas spring, the valve is located as a valve attachment on the piston rod. First, the end fitting must be unscrewed from the piston rod in order to access the threaded pin and thus the valve.

Side valve

This valve allows for quick force adjustment directly in the application, without any need to remove the gas spring. It is also suitable for pressure monitoring using a pressure gauge.

Protective tube

Located on the piston rod, it protects against damage and the elements. It reduces the risk of kinking and is particularly useful for longer lifts or in such applications as horse trailers. A protective tube can also be installed later.

Floating piston

Regardless of the installation position, it is an oil-hydraulic damping system that dampens the speed over the entire stroke of the gas spring. With our line of hydraulic oil dampers, the idle stroke is not lost with a floating piston.

Retraction lock

Mechanically blocks the extended piston rod to prevent unintentional retraction of the gas spring. The retraction lock is often used at market stalls and must be manually “unlocked”.

Short actuation path

With lockable gas springs with short release paths of 0.1 to 0.2 mm (where the standard is 2 to 5 mm), the gas spring reacts even with minimal actuation of the release plunger – perfect for precision control.

HAHN Reducer

Provides safe and comfortable force reduction in gas springs with a valve. The HAHN Reducer is screwed onto the thread of the base piece valve. By pressing on the handle, the release tappet opens the valve and gas can escape.

HAHN Clean Cap

Cap for subsequent installation. Protects the piston rod seal by removing dirt during retraction. This prevents foreign particles from entering the interior of the gas spring. Particularly suitable for construction machinery where dust and sand can damage the seals. Please note: Stroke and power losses (friction) occur when using the HAHN clean cap. The amount of power loss depends on the operating temperature and the frequency.

The seal system for increased strain (B3)

Designed for gas springs that are exposed to high forces and intense vibrations, e.g., in construction machinery. When designing the gas pressure spring, a reduction in the usable stroke must be taken into account.

RK - Friction element

Increases the friction force to enable safe positioning of windows, hatches, or other moving parts. An elastic foam ring installed on the piston provides additional friction in the pressure tube.

Low-temperature version (NT)

Specially designed for use in environments with temperatures dropping down to -40°C without loss of functionality.

High-temperature version (HT)

Enables the use of gas springs at extreme temperatures of up to 200°C. This version is particularly suitable for industrial applications.

Additional valves

Gas springs and tension springs can be equipped with a valve on request. This valve makes it possible to reduce the extension force of the spring by reducing the gas volume. This allows you to adjust your gas spring on site.

Regulator

With this handheld test device, you can easily measure and regulate the pressure of a small batch yourself.
